2022 Global Stamp Graces the Cover of Linn’s Latest Issue

2022 Global Stamp Issued

The USPS issued their very first Global Forever® stamp in 2013 (and it was a globe, appropriately). The USPS sends mail to over 190 countries, and guess whose photo of an African Daisy is going to be on the 2022 Global Forever® stamp? Drum roll, please…MINE!

I just got an email informing me that the news of the debut was released to the public today, so I can share the exciting news here!

You can send 1 oz letters or postcards around the world with one Global Forever® stamp, which currently costs $1.30 and never expires, even if the postage price goes up. For large envelopes (flats) up to 15.994 oz, postage prices vary based on weight and destination.

The African Daisy stamp is being issued in self-adhesive panes of 10. This stamp will be released in Kansas City, MO, without a first-day-of-issue ceremony, on March 14. Sometimes the Postal Store will allow you to pre-order stamps from their website. I think they sometimes put issuances on pre-sale 30 days before issuance, so you might check out their site mid-February: usps.com/shop and then go to Stamps and search for African Daisy.

This is the 11th image I’ve had published as a Forever® stamp. Previously, I had images for: Ferns 2014, Water Lilies 2015 and Kenilworth Park (as part of the National Park Service 100th Anniversary 16-stamp panel) in 2016.

USPS Official Press Release — National Park Forever Stamps

Hi, I'm with the Postal Service and wanted to give you a heads up that Washington, D.C., area photographer Cindy Dyer beat the odds by having her beautiful water lily photo selected on a Forever Stamp as the 11th of 16 stamps to celebrate the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary.

The Postal Service gets about 40,000 suggestions for stamp ideas each year, but only about 20 topics make the cut. To have your work appear on a stamp is extremely rare and is often unparalleled in a photographer’s career.

The June 2 first-day-of-issue ceremony for the National Parks Forever Stamps pane will take place at New York City’s Javits Center at 11 a.m. as part of the world’s largest stamp show that only takes place in the United States once a decade, World Stamp Show-NY 2016. Dedication ceremonies will also take place at or near each of the National Parks depicted on the stamps. Individuals are asked to spread the news on social media by using the hashtags #NPSSTamps, #FindYourPark or #NPS100.

Other National Park Forever Stamps previewed to date include Acadia National Park, Arches National Park, Assateague Island National Seashore, Bandelier National Monument, Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Everglades National Park, Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, Grand Canyon National Park, Gulf Islands National Seashore and Haleakalā National Park.

Special Dedication Ceremony for Water Lilies Forever Stamps

The Water Lilies Forever stamps were unveiled in a special dedication ceremony on Saturday at Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens. In this photo shot by Mark Saunders (USPS PR Dept.), Dr. Wendy Mcilwain (USPS Southern MD Processing and Distribution Center Manager) and I unveil the stamps before the kick off of the Lotus and Water Lily Festival. It started out rainy and very overcast that morning, but about an hour before showtime, it began to clear. The weather was downright pleasant—not the usual ghastly hot temps of a typical D.C. July day! Thanks to my “entourage” for their physical, emotional and moral support—Debbie Dyer Talbert, Michael Schwehr, Greg Carlton, Michael Powell and Heather Callin.

Insert really cool fact here: The Postal Service typically prints between 20 million and 40 million stamps of an individual subject. Half a billion Water Lilies Forever stamps were printed in anticipation of extreme customer demand. (They usually only print holiday stamps in that large amount.) Mark told me that nearly HALF of the half billion have sold to date! How cool is THAT? So special thanks to all of you who have bought them—makes me look extra good!

Garfield Perry March Party Stamp Show
March 20, 2015

The Garfield-Perry March Party stamp show will host the first-day ceremony for the four Water Lilies forever stamps March 20 at 11:00 am. The show is March 19-21, 2015 at La Villa Conference and Banquet Center, 11500 Brookpark Road, in Cleveland, OH (near I-480 and West 130th). The Garfield-Perry Stamp Club celebrates its 125th anniversary this year.

US Postal Service Fern Stamps
March 2015

First issued in 2014, these five stamps celebrate the beauty and elegance of ferns. Each of these stamps depicts a close-up photograph of a different species of fern — autumn fern, Goldie’s wood fern, soft shield fern, Fortune’s holly fern, and painted fern. The shapes and textures of the fronds stand out against a stark white background, which highlights the placement of the leaflets along each fern’s stem. Art director Phil Jordan designed the stamps using existing images by photographer Cindy Dyer. In March 2015, the USPS issued the Fern stamps as Forever stamps.
